Audi Field In Washington, Dc., Now has Fanduel Sportsbbook

Almost a year after applying for a license, FanDuel Sportsbook is now live in Washington, DC at Audi Field.

Regrettably, individuals desiring to engage in phone-based betting will be disappointed to learn that mobile betting and FanDuel Casinos are not available.

LSR was informed by a company spokesperson that the launch of mobile betting does not currently have a set timetable.

FanDuel is sticking with retail betting only in DC

There are two ways in which DC sports betting operates.

The initial option enables operators to release a mobile application across a majority of DC, but entails a tax rate of 20%. On the other hand, the second choice permits mobile sportsbooks within a two-block distance from the team’s partner, specifically Audi Field. Additionally, this alternative carries a tax rate of 10%.

Given the complexities of DC sports betting, it is understandable that FanDuel has chosen scenario number two. Currently, the Nation’s Capital only offers three mobile betting options.

  • BetMGM
  • Caesars Sportsbook
  • GambetDC

GambetDC still falling behind for DC sports betting

Despite being up and running for more than two years, the mobile app GambetDC operated by the DC Lottery has not delivered the expected dividends to the district.

In the month of May, GambetDC recorded a sports betting handle of slightly more than $5 million, resulting in revenue of $724,452. On the other hand, BetMGM, Caesars, and Elys restaurant sportsbook collectively achieved a handle of $12.2 million and revenue of $1.3 million, showcasing a significant difference in performance.

In addition to its low user count, the DC app has suffered from frequent malfunctions such as the notorious Super Bowl outage, which has resulted in a less-than-favorable reputation among bettors.

DC Lottery Director Frank Suarez stated that the mistake resulted in significant harm to the organization’s reputation.

Former DC CFO Jeff DeWitt predicted that by 2021, Intralot’s management of DC sports betting would generate approximately $27 million in revenue, according to estimates made in 2018.

FanDuel’s retail choice may have other benefits

BetMGM has teamed up with the Washington Nationals’ home stadium, Nationals Park. Conveniently located just a five-minute stroll away from Audi Field, this partnership allows individuals interested in placing mobile sports bets to easily access the betting options within a two-block radius.

BetMGM has the opportunity to attract customers and generate business from fans attending a DC United game, even before they enter Audi Field.
